Contour Planning have just won a planning appeal for a four-bed detached house and double garage, in a rural area outside an identified village boundary. In allowing the appeal the Inspector acknowledged that the proposal would have a very limited effect on the established character of the settlement or the countryside, but it would have a positive effect on the shortfall in housing land supply.
This decision illustrates that, despite the recent Supreme Court judgement on the NPPF (see our 11 May post), the Planning Inspector considered the benefits of helping the supply of housing were greater and an impact on the character of the area.
